Most days, I begin or end with a walk by the lake.
In winter, the waterfront can be quiet and windswept. In summer, it becomes one of the liveliest places in our community. I have walked it through every season and in every kind of weather, sometimes with my family, sometimes with a friend and sometimes alone with my thoughts.
Those walks remind me why this place matters so much to me.
My family and I have called Ward 1 home since 2007, first in Lakeshore Woods and now in Bronte. Like many families, our life here has been built through ordinary moments: school mornings, conversations with neighbours, errands at local shops, time in our parks and the familiar routines through which a place gradually becomes part of our lives.
On their own, these moments may seem small. Together, they create a sense of everyday belonging that words can have a hard time capturing.
Local government is never abstract. Its decisions appear in our daily lives.
In whether a child can cross the street safely, whether construction is managed well, whether parks feel welcoming and whether residents receive clear information when plans change.
Being a mother has made me notice these things even more. I think about children moving safely through their neighbourhoods, families reaching parks and programs, and older residents remaining connected to the community they helped build. I believe a strong community should make room for every generation.
For more than 20 years, I have worked in aviation, where no two days, and no two people, are exactly alike. The work has taught me to communicate clearly, remain calm under pressure and pay attention to what each person needs.
It has also taught me that service is not about having all the answers. It is about taking responsibility, treating people with dignity and following through.
That is the approach I would bring to Town Council.
Whether travelling for work or leisure, I am drawn to the places where community life happens naturally: a busy park, a neighbourhood cafe, a trail that brings people together, a library filled with activity or a historic building given a useful new life.
I notice how other communities use their waterfronts and public spaces to create connection. I return home wondering which ideas might work here and how they could help make Ward 1 even more welcoming, connected and alive.
I value our history, but I also believe communities must evolve. We do not have to choose between heritage and modernity. We can help them find harmony, protecting what gives Ward 1 its character while moving confidently into the future.
I am running because I care deeply about the place we have built and believe in what it can become: a connected, welcoming Ward 1 that makes room for everyone.
